S.C.A.R Shelf D (Men's Rail) had brackets added this morning

Image
Linda of S.C.A.R. worked with Tony to prop up shelf D while four brackets where drilled into the solid wall. Also the two broken rail holders were replaced : Four brackets added and rail holders replaced How it was

Well Shelf B and C batons cut, screwed, drilled, painted and drying in the rain!

Hopefully, my lean-to will keep them dry and I'll get a second coat on before they are applied to shelves B and C tomorrow at 9:30am ! They will go under the shelves near the front and bolted in place with four bolts with large washers :) Shelf  B Shelf C

Moving on to Shelf B of the S.C.A.R. charity shop

Next Weds (28/6) at 9:30 am I will try to straighten the next shelf (Shelf B). Yesterday I popped into the shop later in the day to look at the this shelf (Shelf B). Which is the tall one beside the shelf I worked on yesterday and took some measurements using an 8" length of 2" x 1". Height of Shelf B: 211.5 cm / 211.5 cm (for baton) Length of Shelf D rail:  191 cm (for rebar) Length of Shelf A rail:  165.5 cm (for rebar) I was pleasantly surprised that I could easily straighten it with my hand - so a single baton bolted down above the shelf would probably work. (I guess the bags on it are empty and pretty light) I also discussed with Nicky adding rebar inside the stainless steel horizontal rails. This would remove the need for chains to support the middle of these rails and so take some pressure off the shelf above :)  Nicky also suggested adding right angled brackets under the shelves which is what I intend to try on the men's clothes shelf (Shelf D).  So I a...

Angle grinder gearbox repair

Amazing to see a angle grinder gearbox being repaired, It's so good the facilities we have in the Men's Shed as this project would be impossible without a sturdy bench vice. Good luck Mike T with the repair!

Some success with the first S.C.A.R shelf this morning.

After painting the pole yesterday (between the showers) it was time to get my tool bag together to see if Plan B will work :)   Well working with Nicky (from S.C.A.R.) adding a vertical pole and bolting the ends of the horizontal baton to the shelf seems to have improved things :)

Straightening Shelf with Horizontal baton failed

Image
So Tony W worked with Nicky (from S.C.A.R.) at  this morning at 9:30 am and tried straightening shelve with horizontal 1" x 2" batons (screwed together at 90 degrees)  but the 30x 1" screws wouldn't hold them into the 3/4" (17 mm) MDF shelf.  However, having a round vertical post worked well in straightening the shelf so Tony W will combine the two approaches when he tries again tomorrow at 9:30 am :) Also the chain holding the clothes rail will need to be slackened once the shelf has been straightened. Or better still have it supported by the round vertical post instead.  The 28 mm diameter circular post is now being painted white and support hole drilling tested before it is installed tomorrow morning.
